The Whole Person Approach: Integrating Wellness into Treatment for Children and Mothers Exposed to Domestic Violence

This experiential presentation introduces the basic components of the whole person approach to trauma treatment as developed by Children’s Institute Inc. and A Thousand Joys. Participants will learn unique approaches to domestic violence treatment that integrate wellness strategies with traditional trauma treatment methods. Participants will also practice learned wellness techniques.

Integrating Yoga into Trauma Treatment

Presenters: A Thousand Joys and Children’s Institute, Inc., Sherisa Dahlgren, LMFT and Mariana Pascuzzi, MFTI

This experiential presentation provides instruction in the use of yoga as a coping skill in trauma treatment to target identified trauma symptoms. Participants will learn how yoga inspired movements help to resolve trauma held in the body and will actively practice techniques that induce relaxation when trauma memories/responses are triggered.

Preventing Burnout & Vicarious Trauma

Presenters: A Thousand Joys, Sherisa Dahlgren, LMFT & Liza Aucillo, Psy.D.

This experiential presentation focuses on improving the wellbeing of clinicians by teaching techniques designed to manage the impact of highly stressful clinical work. Recommendations will be provided for using these techniques in trauma treatment as well as to create a psychologically healthy workplace.
